Mary Claire Miller (b. 1995) grew up with seven siblings on a small farm in northwest Ohio. She began studying piano when she was eight years old and continued studying music at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. There, she was awarded Xavier’s Presidential and McCauley Music scholarships and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Music; her primary concentrations were piano and composition. In the summer of 2016, she travelled abroad to teach general music and piano lessons in San Jose, Costa Rica. That year, she received the West Hills College Piano Award for her solo performances, and she also performed as an accompanist for the Cincinnati Children’s Choir.
Mary Claire is now an active member of greater Toledo’s musical community. She has taught Pre-K through 8th grade general music at St. Augustine in Napoleon, Ohio. Inspired to foster music education, she founded the studio Field Lily Music, where she offers private piano lessons to local students.
In 2018, Mary Claire was awarded a tuition scholarship to study music composition at Bowling Green State University. In addition to her composition studies, she works as a teaching assistant for sections of Bowling Green’s undergraduate music theory courses. In 2020, she will graduate with a master’s degree in music composition.
The mission of Field Lily Music is to enrich the lives of people in the Toledo community and beyond through quality music education, piano instruction, piano performance, and composition.
